JACKSON COUNTY, MO — Inmates are asking a judge to step in and grant immediate relief inside the Jackson County Detention Center.

The lawsuit, which is an amended lawsuit, claims conditions are inhumane.

The class action lawsuit was filed for a specific inmate, but has now been amended as a class action to represent all pretrial detainees.

It says conditions in the jail amount to cruel and unusual punishment

It asks a judge to grant immediate relief.

It says inmates are forced into cells with sewage and black mold.

Just last week auditors publicly said the jail was in crisis.

The detention center has been the focus of numerous KCTV5 investigations for security problems, rapes and even deaths.
