Inmate found dead in Sampson jail

Anthony Ladon Chavious, 40, of Goldsboro, had been in the jail since last Wednesday on a child support charge, authorities said.

A detention officer found him unresponsive in his cell at about 4:45 p.m., and paramedics were unable to revive him.

A medical examiner is trying to determine the cause of death, but authorities said there were no signs of foul play or indications of a suicide.
