Clinton, N.C. — Local authorities are investigating after an inmate was found dead in his cell in the Sampson County jail on Sunday.
Anthony Ladon Chavious, 40, of Goldsboro, had been in the jail since last Wednesday on a child support charge, authorities said.
A detention officer found him unresponsive in his cell at about 4:45 p.m., and paramedics were unable to revive him.
A medical examiner is trying to determine the cause of death, but authorities said there were no signs of foul play or indications of a suicide.
