Inmate found dead in apparent suicide

An inmate at Maury Correctional Institution died of an apparent suicide, the state Department of Correction said Tuesday.

Johnny Lewis, 55, was serving a life sentence for a second-degree murder conviction in Robeson County in 1978. He was found at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in his cell with a belt around his neck.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death.

    Since when were callousness and meanness American virtues? Some of you people make me absolutely sick. And you think you are funny? I feel bad for your children because you set such an awful example for them. You also poison our communities with your hatred and viciousness. You don't know the facts of the case, you don't know the man, and you don't know about the victims, either. Since you don't know anything about it, why not just shut up instead of being so ugly and mean?

    reality bites.
    I care about the victim and victims' family. Evidently this guy was serving his time and something in him snapped. I feel for his loved ones also.
    I responded because of the remarks made by grimreaper. No need to say hateful things and when you say these types of things you degrade yourself.
