— Authorities were searching Wednesday for an escaped inmate who walked away from a federal prison satellite camp in Butner, federal prison spokeswoman Denise Simmons said.

Ernest Thomas, 60, was serving a 27-year sentence for cocaine distribution.

Thomas was discovered missing during an afternoon count of inmates on Monday. The entire complex, including the prison and satellite camp, was searched, but Thomas was not found, Simmons said.

No other information was released.

jjordan...in case you're not aware, its a "crime" to distribute cocaine. I hope he "run run run" straight to your house. This guy is 60 years old and has a 27 year sentence....he has absolutely nothing to lose so I'd consider him very dangerous. People like you are why the world is going down the tubes quick...

It is a crime made by man. If you distribute cocaine to me with my consentr who is the victim? Theres not one. Why do you need the gov to tell you cocaine is bad?

Why have they not said anything about this before now? Good job guards! NOT! My chickens could've guarded better...

There is no way he is dangerous let alone "very" dangerous, jgoodfiveo. He wouldn't be in a minimum security facility if he was.

Oh please, the man sold a little snow, big deal. He should have been given a year confinement and five years probation at the most.

But would it be that hard to get out of dry toilet paper?

  • iwannaseethereceipts Jun 20, 2012

Also, FCI Butner is most certainly NOT a supermax facility.

  • iwannaseethereceipts Jun 20, 2012

I am frequently at the camp eyeoneastsky, which is where he escaped from. It wouldn't be difficult to get out of the camp at all. Are all prisoner in the complex put on anti-psychotic drugs?

  • eyeoneastsky Jun 20, 2012

The Federal Prison at Butner is a supermax. I used to know some guards there and those prisoners are so pumped with ani-psychotic drugs that they wouldn't be able to fight their way out of wet toilet paper. I smell a rat and a fish and a bag of balony. Have any of you been out there lately? The whole compound is about 5 blocks long. The place is huge.
