OMAHA, Neb. — An investigation is now underway after an inmate was found dead in her cell at the Douglas County Department of Corrections.
At around 4:30 a.m., staff members found Susan Kiscoan, 46, lying on her bunk in a single cell room of a housing unit.
Staff then announced a medical emergency, as Kiscoan appeared to be unresponsive.
Corrections officials say medical staff immediately responded, assisted in first aid efforts and instructed staff to call 911.
The Omaha Fire Department arrived, and it was determined that Kiscoan was dead.
She was booked into the jail on Sept. 14.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has initiated an investigation as is required by state law for any in-custody death.
