Indictment Accuses Durham Mother of Child Abuse

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham County grand jury has indicted a Durham mother on charges she abused her four children.

Saretha Singletary faces four counts of felony child abuse along with exposing the children to fire. Firefighters had to pull a 3-year-old girl from a burning apartment last Aug. 27. Three other children got out safely.

Police charged that Singletary and the children's father, Travis Mason, left them alone in an apartment with no electricity and that the fire was caused by a burning candle.

Mason also charged with abuse and neglect
