DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham City Council approved plans on Monday to offer a developer an incentive deal to renovate the downtown SunTrust tower.

The city will give $4.2 million to Durham-based Greenfire Development to convert the old SunTrust building, located in an area of downtown known as the City Center, to a 150-room, four-star hotel and spa.

Greenfire bought the landmark Hill Building from Sun Trust in 2006 for $4.1 million.
