In honor of Prince, Carolina Theatre offers free 'Purple Rain' screenings

Durham, N.C. — In honor of pop star Prince, who died Thursday at his Minneapolis, Minn. home at the age of 57, the Carolina Theatre will be offering free screenings of his film “Purple Rain” next month.
Two screenings of the 1984 film will be held on May 5 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the theater’s historic Fletcher Hall.
Tickets will be available beginning at 2 p.m. on May 5 on a first-come-first-serve basis. Tickets can only be purchased in person and will not be available online. Although there is no admission fee, guests will be limited to two tickets.
Purple Rain earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and the soundtrack album sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
