Illinois woman killed, child injured in crash near Six Flags
Westbound Interstate 44 near Six Flags was closed for several hours due to a multiple-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedTroopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol say Elizabeth Venecia, 39, of Aurora, Illinois was killed when the vehicle she was riding in struck a metal guardrail off the right side of the road. Police said weather likely played a role in the crash, as it was raining at the time. Venecia was not wearing a seatbelt. An 11-year-old child, who was wearing a seatbelt, was also ejected from the car and sustained serious injuries.
A second car was then hit by debris from the first car's impact.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. All lanes re-opened around 5:30 p.m.
