ST. LOUIS, MO — Westbound Interstate 44 near Six Flags was closed for several hours due to a multiple-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Wednesday.

Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol say Elizabeth Venecia, 39, of Aurora, Illinois was killed when the vehicle she was riding in struck a metal guardrail off the right side of the road. Police said weather likely played a role in the crash, as it was raining at the time. Venecia was not wearing a seatbelt. An 11-year-old child, who was wearing a seatbelt, was also ejected from the car and sustained serious injuries.

A second car was then hit by debris from the first car's impact.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. All lanes re-opened around 5:30 p.m.
