Ignition key issue cited in GM recall

General Motors has added more vehicles to a recall list for a problem blamed in at least 13 vehicle deaths.
The issue – a defect with ignition switches in some GM vehicles. The ignition switch can allow the key to change positions, even when the vehicle is off. This disables the front air bags, which is the main safety issue in the recall.
The Chevrolet Cobalt (2005-07) and Pontiac G5 (2007) were already on the recall list. The vehicle maker recently added the Saturn Ion (2003-07), Saturn Sky (2007), Chevrolet HHR (2006-07) and Pontiac Solstice (2007).
Part of the problem appears to be the weight of items on a key ring, GM said. Owners of the recalled vehicles are advised to use the ignition key without a key ring.
