WILSON, N.C. — The state Highway Patrol has released the identity of an Elm City man killed Monday afternoon in a wreck in Wilson County.

Troopers said a Volkswagen Beetle crossed the centerline and collided with a tractor trailer at about 3:45 p.m. on N.C. Highway 58 near Thompson Chapel Road.

The car caught fire and rolled into a ditch. The Volkswagen's driver, James Marvin Creech, 59, was killed, troopers said.

The 55-year-old driver of the tractor trailer, Donny Edwards of Wilson, was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was backed up on N.C. Highway 58 for a short time following the wreck.

Both vehicles were traveling the posted speed limit and no charges were expected to be filed, troopers said.
