RALEIGH, N.C. — Have an idea about how to improve Raleigh? The city wants to know.
Idea Raleigh is a competition organized by the City of Raleigh to help generate ideas for innovative projects through citizen input that will make for a better place to live.

Idea Raleigh is seeking submissions for two separate areas -- the Citywide Challenge, to be implemented within city property throughout Raleigh, and Activate Dix Park, to be implemented in designated areas within the new Dorothea Dix Park.

Applications will be accepted through April 30 at idea.raleighnc.gov. City staff will review submissions and select ideas for each challenge to put up for a public vote. Residents will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite idea between May 15 and May 30. The idea with the most votes wins each challenge. The applicant who submits the winning idea for each challenge will receive a $500 prize.
Submissions should include a $2,000 budget plan, a project timeline and other factors. Additionally, applicants are required to address at least two of these four themes:
  • Public spaces -- representing where city life happens
  • Arts and culture -- representing the threads that stitch individuals together
  • Sustainability - representing actions that contribute in a positive way to the environment
  • Inclusivity - which recognizes that individual variations promote collective well being
