DURHAM, N.C. — Ronnie Long spent 44 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Decades of his life, he says, were robbed from him. Now after being only three months out, someone has stolen from him again.

On Sunday afternoon, his doorbell camera captured a man stealing two packages off his doorstep within minutes of the packages’ delivery.

“Minutes. Minutes. He had to been standing over there to see when the packages dropped,” Long said.

This is Long's first Christmas at home in a very long time.

“I ain’t got nothing. I’m three months out of the penitentiary. 44 years for something I didn’t do,” said Long. “It’s a struggle more or less to try to come back into society with the avenues that I have. I’m more or less relying on other people.”

Many in the community have supported him in recent months, raising over $50,000 in a GoFundMe page.

“This is how I’m surviving," Long said. "This is how I bought these little items from my house with funds that was donated to me.”

In the video captured by the doorbell, neighbors can be heard shouting at the thief to put the packages back.

The items that were stolen were small, including some bedding and household items. Long says the value doesn’t matter. It’s about respecting everyone in your community because you never know their story.

Neighbors have identified the man in the video. Durham police have yet to make an arrest in this case.
