WHITAKERS, N.C. — North Carolina Department of Transportation officials on Tuesday closed the ramp from N.C. Highway 4/48 to Interstate 95 South near Rocky Mount after a vehicle struck the flyover ramp.

A metal girder on the flyover ramp was damaged by the vehicle, forcing the closure of the entire ramp to I-95.

The ramp could be closed for up to four weeks while DOT officials evaluate the damage and make repairs. Occasional lane closures on I-95 South will be necessary as repairs are completed.

Drivers wanting to access I-95 South from N.C. 4/48 will now take the ramp to I-95 North, exit onto N.C. Highway 33, turn left and then merge onto I-95 South.
