BENSON, N.C. — Traffic is flowing again on Interstate 95 near the Johnston-Harnett County line following an accident Monday evening.

Crews reopened the roadway at around 6 a.m. Tuesday. The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 77 shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, police said. Authorities said a tractor-trailer heading north on I-95 rear-ended another tractor-trailer. One of the tractor-trailers ended up in the southbound lane, officials said.

At least one person suffered minor injuries, police said.

Officers said there was no leak from the tanker truck, but clean-up crews were called to the scene. Throughout the early-morning hours, crews had to close a portion of northbound and southbound lanes in the area.

Earlier, transportation workers urged motorists to take a detour route between mile markers 76 and 79, police said.

The detour route took motorists on northbound I-95 from the Jonesboro Road exit, along U.S. Highway 301 North, and through downtown Benson to Main Street, which connects with I-95.

Drivers on southbound I-95 took the Benson exit at mile marker 79 and turned left onto U.S. 301 in downtown Benson. U.S. 301 lead them to the Jonesboro Road juncture with I-95.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident.
