CLINTON, N.C. — Authorities found drugs and cash in a car following a Thursday morning chase on Interstate 95 through Cumberland and Sampson counties.

A Cumberland County deputy was trying to stop a white Saturn that had been rented in Florida when the car sped off, authorities said. The reason for the traffic stop was unclear.

A 28-minute chase ensued along I-95, with the state Highway Patrol joining in the pursuit. The chase ended when the Saturn crashed in a ditch near Spivey's Corners, authorities said.

Authorities found three pounds of marijuana and some prescription drugs and cocaine in the car.

Two men in the car were taken into custody, and a woman in the car was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after complaining of stomach pains, authorities said.
