I-95 briefly closed during rush hour

Posted September 24, 2008

— A tractor-trailer hit a bridge support on Interstate 95 northbound in Johnston County just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Both lanes of I-95 north were closed south of Smithfield while N.C. Department of Transportation crews inspected the bridge. The highway re-opened at about 5:15 p.m.

No one was injured, and the bridge sustained only minor damage.

I-95 is a mess in Johnston County for the entire length. I just wish our highway trust fund wasn't robbed of its money so that I-95 could be made right from border to border. I-95 needs to be no less than 3 lanes for the entire state the bridges and lanes in Johnston county need to be brought up to interstate standards.

Gosh - I-95 runs for, like, 30 miles through Johnston County.
Wouldn't it help if the story told us the approximate mile marker of the accident?
