I-440 lane closures canceled this week

Lane closures planned for Tuesday and Wednesday nights on Interstate 440 in southeast Raleigh have been canceled, the state Department of Transportation said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Lane closures planned for Tuesday and Wednesday nights on Interstate 440 in southeast Raleigh have been canceled, the state Department of Transportation said.

The closures – part of the Fortify project to rebuild an 11.5-mile stretch of Interstate 40/440 – are not needed because the contractor was able to complete prep work ahead of time. A spokesman for NCDOT said the contractor spent Monday night putting up barrier walls along both eastbound shoulders of the interstate between the Sunnybrook Road underpass and the I-440/U.S. Highway 64 split.

Lane closures are not expected next week. However, more are planned for later in the month.
