I-440 East reopens after cars, motorcycles crash

A multi-vehicle crash closed Interstate 440 East between Wake Forest Road and Capital Boulevard in Raleigh on June 29, 2014.

— Interstate 440 East reopened late Sunday after a multi-vehicle crash closed the highway between Wake Forest Road and Capital Boulevard, according to Raleigh police.

No life-threatening injuries were reported in the wreck, which involved four cars and two motorcycles, police said. Some of the people involved were taken to a local hospital. Their names were not released.

The highway was clear by 10 p.m., about an hour after the crash.

    That's a terrible area for merging traffic at any time (both directions). Rush hour is the worst and there are many that carry the "me-first" mentality. I drive the stretch everyday (to and from work) and you pretty much have to drive defensively in that area. Surprised to hear it happpend on a sunday night though.

    Should police officers be required to ride along in every vehicle on the road to ensure drivers don't make careless/stupid mistakes?

    Let us know how cops can predict accidents and/or bad drivers....and let us know who would pay for police to be on every road 24x7.

    An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Why are the cops are always late to the bad driver party? They should have issued citations before the wreck and beltline closure.
