Lanes back open after I-40 crash

RALEIGH, N.C. — Westbound traffic was slow but smooth on Interstate 40 south of downtown Raleigh after a tractor-trailer wreck closed all lanes on the highway Monday morning. The Department of Transportation began reopening lanes just after 1 p.m.

The driver of the truck told the State Highway Patrol that heavy rain was falling and he hydroplaned, leaving the travel lanes and crashing into some trees. The driver was walking around after the wreck, but he was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

No one else was injured, and no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Delays were minor once the Department of Transportation got traffic moving smoothly along detours to the north or south.
