SNELLVILLE, GA — Police believe a man is on the run after shooting his wife in her bedroom late Thursday night.

Gwinnett County police were called to the home on Medlock Park Drive near Snellville just after midnight when the victim's 10-year-old son went into his mother's room to check on her. He found her suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to police, the son had been in and out of the house for most of the day. When he arrived home at around 9 p.m., he saw his stepfather leave the house, but didn't think anything of it.

"Between 9 p.m. and midnight, the child was inside the home unaware that his mother was deceased inside another bedroom," said Gwinett police Cpl. Michele Pihera.

Once officers got to the home, they tried unsucessfully to revive the woman.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe a fight between the victim and her husband led to her death. The couple has reportedly been together for many years but only recently married.

Officials don't know where the husband is, but he is believed to be driving a 2001 black Ford Expedition with chrome wheels. The license plate number is RGJ8749.
