HungerFreeNC movement kicks off today!

Today is the start of HungerFreeNC, a week-long event to raise money and awareness about people who do not have enough food to eat right here in NC. The event includes a day-long MEDIAthon on TV, radio and web to raise money for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, our non-profit partner. Read on to find out the various ways you can help!

Today is the start of HungerFreeNC, a week-long event to raise money and awareness about people who do not have enough food to eat right here in North Carolina. The event includes a documentary about hunger, a day-long MEDIAthon on TV, radio and web to raise money for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, our non-profit partner and more.

If you head to the main page for the HungerFreeNC movement found at the link above, you'll find ways to help including donating money and food and volunteering. You'll also find information to share with those in need.

 

Activities planned for the week

July 21 - A Place At The Table, 7 p.m., WRAL-TV (which should be available soon on wral.com)

July 24 - WRAL documentary: Hungry for Answers, 7 p.m.

July 25 - HungerFreeNC MEDIAthon to benefit Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, 6a-7p, WRAL-TV, FOXY 107/104, 103.9 The Light and K97.5.

 

Donate Food

Many of you already donate your extra overstock to your local food bank which is an awesome thing to do! If you are looking for a great place to make donations, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle accepts staple items for their BackPack Buddies and School Pantries.

According to their website , they do encourage donations of healthy items such as:
Whole Grains
Quinoa
Brown Rice
Dry beans/peas
100% juice
Shelf stable milk
Dried fruit
Nuts

Nut butters

For health and safety reasons, they do not accept donations of:

Home prepared food including canned/jarred fruits, vegetables, and preserves
Heavily dented cans
Items without labels
Items void of nutritional value including candy, potted meat, Vienna sausages, “fruit” drinks made without fruit juice, sodas, and chips
