PITTSBORO, N.C. — Investigators identified human remains found on Thursday in northern Chatham County as those belonging to a missing Chapel Hill man.

The remains of Robert Raybun, 49, of 30118-A Settle Drive, Chapel Hill, were found in a wooded area off Mount Carmel Church Road by two men scouting hunting areas on Thursday. The county Sheriff's Office and the State Medical Examiner's Office used dental records to make a positive identification.

Deputies said they do not suspect foul play in the death but are still investigating the cause.

Family members reported Raybun missing after he did not respond to their attempts to contact him. Relatives said they last saw Raybun at his Chatham County home on Friday, February 16.

His remains were found around 1,500 meters from his house. Deputies had previously searched the area with tracking dogs.
