Lillington, N.C. — Firefighters have extinguished a huge brush fire in a Lillington field Wednesday night after it came close to burning a town home community, authorities said.
An emergency call came in around 9:30 p.m. about a small fire in a field on Anna Street, about a quarter mile from Campbell University. Within minutes, the blaze spread to five acres.
At one point, the flames were about 75 feet from the Meadows Townhomes, but no damage has been reported.
Authorities said high winds made fighting the fire very challenging.
No other information was released.
