HPU poll: Voters would bring Reagan or Clinton back

The poll asked voters which president from the last 50 years they would most like to serve as president again. About 34 percent of those surveyed said they would bring back Reagan, while 29 percent said they would bring back Clinton. About 16 percent of voters said former President John F. Kennedy.

A sample of voters in North Carolina yielded similar results. Out of the North Carolina sample, 35 percent said they would bring Reagan back, 33 percent said Clinton and 15 percent said Kennedy.

Martin Kifler, director of the poll, said the results could provide insight into voters' choices on Election Day.

“These choices give us some insight into the kinds of qualities people are looking for in a president,” Kifer says. “And although a lot of what people are saying reflects their own partisan affiliations, there are some hints here about which presidents have stronger legacies.”

To conduct the national poll, 805 registered voters with landline or cellphones were surveyed. The North Carolina sample was comprised of 403 registered voters. A total of 1,208 interviews were conducted from Oct. 22 to Oct. 30. The national poll has a margin of error of 3.45 percent, and the North Carolina poll has a margin of error of 5 percent.
