House fire reported in Smithfield

Fire ripped through a Smithfield home Saturday evening, officials said. According to officials, power lines were down and a gas tank was involved.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Fire ripped through a Smithfield home Saturday evening, officials said. 

Crews were called to the home, at 1837 Barbour Road, just before 6:15 p.m.

According to officials, a power line melted off the home and a gas tank was involved. 

No one was home at the time of the blaze, fire officials said, but the road was closed for a period of time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
