— A house fire in Cary sent black smoke billowing over U.S. Highway 1 Friday morning as firefighters tried to put out the blaze.

A Cary town spokeswoman said someone reported the fire at a home at 509 Annandale Drive near U.S. 1 in the MacGregor Downs Subdivision shortly after noon.

Cary police said one person was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators haven't determined a cause for the fire, but they believe it might have started in the fireplace.
