RALEIGH, N.C. — The state House began rolling out its budget Friday. As with everything else around Jones Street, the process is a bit different in the House than it is in the Senate.

Senators rolled out their budget all at once earlier this year. House budget-writers have sent pieces of their spending plan to budget subcommittees that began meeting Friday morning. Those budget subcommittees have the ability to adjust details of the spending plan before it is recombined into a single document over the weekend.

There will almost certainly be some details that will surface in the full budget document over the weekend that aren't apparent in the measures reviewed by subcommittees Friday. But if you're looking for a good overview of what's on the table, the documents distributed Friday morning are available online:

  • Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. Includes information on the Governor's Office budget, legislative budget and other government agencies not part of other budgets.
  •
  • Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. Includes information on Medicaid, Pre-K and other parts of the Department of Health and Human Services.
  •
  • Appropriations Subcommittee on Information Technology. This relatively new subcommittee is focused on IT spending.
  •
  • Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety. Includes funding for the Attorney General's Office, Department Public Safety and emergency management.
  •
  • Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural and Economic Resources. Includes funding for the Commerce Department, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture and miscellaneous economic development grants and spending.
  •
  • Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation. Includes state spending on transportation projects.
