RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina House passed a bill Wednesday to make it illegal for drivers to talk on cell phones while driving a school bus.

House Bill 183, which was sponsored by more than two dozen lawmakers, also prohibits bus drivers from using other electronic devices while driving.

The bill includes cameras or other handheld devices that provides access to the Internet and e-mail. However, bus drivers can use the phones during emergency situations.

The House bill now moves to the state Senate for debate.
