Hope Mills woman's death a mystery to family, police

Roshenda Jackson's boyfriend found her shot in the chest and lying in a pool of blood on the bedroom floor of her home, at 3920 S. Main St., according to her sister, Kristina Crisp.

Crisp said Wednesday that Jackson sent a text message to another sister sometime before 8:30 a.m. Sunday. She was depressed, because she missed her 11-year-old daughter, Crisp said.

The two sisters talked about two hours later on the phone, and the family received a call around 8:30 p.m., informing them she had died.

Police said they are investigating Jackson's death and are awaiting the results of an autopsy as well as laboratory and other tests.

While family members initially thought Jackson's death might have been a suicide, they said they now believe someone else might have sent the text messages.

Jackson's daughter was about to return home, the family said, and she had everything to live for.

"That's why we're so concerned right now," Jackson's sister, Dasheyne Jackson, said. "Whatever happened, all we want to know is why."

Because it was difficult for her to grip things, she never texted using capital letters. Her daughter's name was also misspelled in the texts, the family said.

It also would be difficult for her to use a gun to shoot herself in the chest, her sister said.

"She wasn't really strong enough to hold her cane, so it was physically impossible for her to be able to grab the trigger and shoot herself," Dasheyne Jackson, said.
