HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A Hope Mills police officer has been placed on administrative leave without pay after being charged with communicating threats, officials said.

Officer Jacob Pfeffer, 27, was placed on leave Aug. 22. He joined the Hope Mills Police Department in August 2004.

The department is conducting an internal investigation of the charges against Pfeffer, which Robert Ellis filed with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The relationship between the two men was unclear.

Capt. John Smith of the Hope Mills Police Department declined to comment on the investigation, calling it a personnel matter.
