HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Two Hope Mills men were charged Monday after authorities say they kidnapped and beat a man who was believed to have information about a theft at a local business, police said Wednesday.

According to Hope Mills Police Department Sgt. Sheila Merriman, Roger Wayne Hanson, 38, of the 3700 block of Waring Place, was charged with assault inflicting serious injury, kidnapping and conspiracy after he allegedly assaulted an employee Sunday evening at his home.

According to investigators, Hanson had offered a reward for information about the theft of items from his business. The victim told authorities he went to Hanson's home to offer information about the reward and was assaulted.

After the assault, Hanson had Charles Keith Bowen, 27, of the 6300 block of Rustic Bridge, drive the victim around to try to get more information, authorities said. Bowen was charged with kidnapping and conspiracy.

The victim got away from Bowen, called for help and was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Hanson received a $50,000 secured bond, and Bowen's bond was set at $25,000.
