— A Hope Mills man has been charged with sex crimes involving a 7-year-old girl, authorities said Friday.

David Grantham, 55, of 1306 Bill Drive, has been charged with crimes against nature, first-degree rape, taking indecent liberties with a child, incest between near relatives and first-degree statutory sex offense. The charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred last September, authorities said.

Grantham, a registered sex offender since December 2001, is in the Hyde County Correctional Institute, serving a sentence for violating his probation on an earlier child-sex charge, authorities said.

Why would you let a known sex offender be in the presence of your child? If you are a known sex offender, there was absolutely no reason for that child to be ANYWHERE near that filth. Maybe the parents of this child should be charged also for failure to keep their child from harm from a known sexual deviant. Her parents should be jailed right along side the known pervert because this was preventable.

I beg for 10 minutes with just me, my ball bat and him in a room together. Let's see what kind of pervert he his with somebody his own size and can stand up to him. He should not have been near a child to start with. They should have kept the animal locked up for his first sexual assault on a child.

Oh dont worry he won't do much time...his lawyers will say he was a "victim" and all that

It is a proven fact that sex offenders cannot be reformed - when will the courts realize this and stop letting them out of jail on "good behavior?" Of course they behave in jail there are no children in there. I would rather pay higher taxes to build more jails than pay what it costs to keep trying these fools for the same crime. Justjean is right, this is something that the victim never conquers. Justjean my thoughts and prays will be with you and others like you. May God Bless.

He is a crime against nature!! She will be scarred for life. I was molested at seven and I still deal with it 39 years later.

Such a sad story. Praying for that poor girl that it doesn't scar her for life.

I will never understand this type of perversion. You can _halfway_ understand a man's attraction to a 17 or 18 year old, though certainly not at his age, but a seven year old???! It's too sick to think about.

I hope he never sees the outside of a prison again! I agree with the earlier comment by Sunne, there is no cure for pedophilia.

Praying fore this child and her family.

Pray for this child. As for him, I would give him 80 years in prison without parole. Like I keep saying talk to your children, be aware of who is around them; even family members. Teach them what is the proper touch and what is not. Teach them to tell and not be afraid. They can tell you the parent, teachers and other adults at school, police and ministers and Junior Church Directors. Teach them is they are not comfortable around said person to yell "fire" and run. That will certainly cause attention. Why would a old man in his 50's-60's want to mess with a child. Because its someone that is not as strong as an adult. They can easily over-power a child. They are more than mentally sick. Put them in prison for Life and our children will be safe. But they keep letting them out. Judges etc keep these kinds of people under lock and key.

Its a shame that people give sex away for free but pedophiles have to target our kids. How many can look themselves in the face and know that they are that sick? I agree with locking them up and throwing away the key. Sick people such as these need to be put in solitary confinement to live in their own twisted minds.

He is charged with incest between near relatives? Hello?!?! What parent in their right mind would allow their child anywhere near a relative that has PRIOR convictions for child molestation? A stupid parent, that's who! The perp is to blame for his actions but the parents of the 7 year old child are JUST as guilty. Why don't you just throw that poor child out of a moving car at 55 mph? They would probably recover more easily from that than the sexual abuse. Gosh....this just makes me irate!!
