FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 28-year-old Hope Mills man died in a traffic accident Thursday, officials said.

Police said Xurry Corcell Evans, of 2072 Lake Up Church Road, was driving on Owen Drive toward Highway 301 in Fayetteville when he apparently lost control of his car and ran off the road hitting a utility pole and breaking it in half. The remainder of the pole landed on Owen Drive where motorist Coley Mathis, of Clinton, hit the pole. Mathis’ vehicle flipped on its side.

Mathis was treated for minor injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and released.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
