Hope Mills man accused of exposing himself at bus stop

Posted January 27, 2010

— Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Wednesday charged a Hope Mills man after he allegedly exposed himself to children at a school bus stop.

Darrick Freeman, 46, of 4889 Grays Creek Church Road, was charged with felony and misdemeanor indecent exposure. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $4,000 bond.

Between August and October 2008, Freeman exposed and touched himself as he stood nude at the front door of his home while students waited outside for their school bus to arrive, authorities said. Witnesses told investigators that Freeman walked around his home in the nude with the lights on inside and his curtains open.

Freeman is a registered sex offender.

southrenbell222: stop trying to hijack a thread. Where on earth do you get off thinking a governor of any state would be meddling in a county's bus routes before a problem like this had happened before? Amazing how some people just push an agenda and vilify others whenever they put characters to screen.

The world we live in... nothing is surprising me anymore. I am glad that Bev Perdue has all the time in the world to implentment things like the no smoking indoors (in a tobacco state), or installing wi-fi downtown raleigh instead of checking to make sure our school bus stops are safe!

A school bus carrying children makes a stop at a intersection in front of the home of a register sex offender's house? What moron made up this route for the bus driver to take or make a stop in front of a register sex offender, aka the neighborhood child molester to be stalking out kids who wait on a school bus in the mornings? Something is not right with this. Not right at all.

Like the previous comment,I'm ain't no Harvard student, but like him there is something mighty wrong with this picture, and these morons on the school board don't even see the danger coming that could happened to any child within seconds. Morons who make up the Wake County School System. Or those who are in charge of our most precious cargo which is the children who we take responsible for each and everyday.

Apparently, rehabilitation didn't work. What's next? Or do we have to wait for him to grab a child before doing anything else?

NC Atty General Roy Cooper was always on TV telling us how he is protecting children from predators online. Guess it's time for him to protect them from PREDATORS not incarcerated. Anybody seen him lately?

Just because it's legal dosen't mean it's right. Where's the common sense?

It's legal to have school bus stop in front of sex offender residents. Perhaps it's time to identify the residence of a convicted sex offender with a FLAG of some kind posted in front of the house. Freeman was convicted of 6 counts ofIndecent Liberties w/child in 1993, 1994, and convicted of 7 counts of Felony Sex Offense of Child by Substitute Parent, and Indecent Exposure in August 2008 (2 months served) -- and he only gets a $4,000 bond. Something is wrong with the system and NC AG Roy T Cooper has not yet even checked in on the child sex trafficking murder of Shaniya Davis; children need to be prioritized in NC, not the offenders.
