Authorities are investigating a homicide near Roanoke Rapids, where a woman was found dead in a ditch Wednesday morning.

<b>ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C.</b> — Authorities are investigating a homicide near Roanoke Rapids, where a woman was found dead in a ditch Wednesday morning.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said investigators were called to the intersection of Craig and Simmons streets around 8 a.m. and that they believe she had been there since around midnight.

Tripp said investigators are still trying to identify the woman and that they have no leads on who might have killed her.
