HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A jogger who was hit by a Holly Springs High School student last week has died, officials said.

Derek Macrae Davis, 37, was in the crosswalk at Holly Springs Road and Linksland Drive with his wife on April 20 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Roberto Carlos Solis-Reyes, 18. His wife was not injured.

Reyes now faces an additional charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was previously cited for running a red light, failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, failure to yield causing serious bodily injury, careless and reckless driving, and operating a vehicle with a permit while not being accompanied by a licensed driver.

The latter two citations are misdemeanor charges.

Solis-Reyes, who was not hurt in the crash, is scheduled to appear in court May 19.
