Holly Springs jogger hit by vehicle dies, driver faces additional charge
A jogger who was hit by a Holly Springs High School student last week has died, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedDerek Macrae Davis, 37, was in the crosswalk at Holly Springs Road and Linksland Drive with his wife on April 20 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Roberto Carlos Solis-Reyes, 18. His wife was not injured.
Reyes now faces an additional charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was previously cited for running a red light, failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, failure to yield causing serious bodily injury, careless and reckless driving, and operating a vehicle with a permit while not being accompanied by a licensed driver.
The latter two citations are misdemeanor charges.
Solis-Reyes, who was not hurt in the crash, is scheduled to appear in court May 19.
