RALEIGH, N.C. — Bright sunshine and lower humidity will create near-perfect weather conditions across central and eastern North Carolina during the three-day holiday weekend, WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.

A front that passed through the region Friday ushered in slightly cooler and drier air, and a high-pressure system in the Midwest will control the Triangle's weather throughout the next two to three days.

Highs Sunday will climb into the low 80s, Moss said.

"If you've got outdoor plans for the Memorial Day weekend, you're going to enjoy beautiful sunshine for much of the next three days," he said.

Overnight lows will dip into the upper 50s overnight, but they will climb quickly Sunday morning, hitting the mid-70s by lunchtime and topping out in the low 80s.

Once again, sunshine will dominate, but central North Carolina will see a few clouds.

On Memorial Day, daytime highs will reach the mid-80s, and scattered afternoon showers are possible.

"It certainly will not rain all day, but we can't rule it out during the late afternoon and evening hours," Moss said.

That pattern – mostly sunny days with scattered afternoon thunderstorms – will continue through the middle of next week as high temperatures creep back toward 90 degrees.
