— April Dru Jimmerson was charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse after her son, Austin, then 2, was found dead floating in a swimming pool on July 2, 2006.

After months of investigation, authorities said, they learned that Jimmerson had a history of child neglect that led to her son's drowning.

Jimmerson, 26, of Helen's Lane in Lumber Bridge, plead guilty to the charges and spent two days in jail. She will be subject to supervised probation in Hoke County.

What exactly do they mean by "a history of negelct"?

  • daMoFo Jul 31, 2008

Gosh, I hope they're not being too hard on her.

This is not right at all. What is PROBATION? Sounds like an easy way out to me. Are these judges just plain lazy today?

1Moms_View - I totally agree with you. With her history, she should NOT be allowed to have children again. So many want children and can't have them...then you have someone like this who neglects the child, thus causing death. If she didn't want her babe, she should have given him to a family who would. I know, I know...easier said than done. There just should be something that could have been done to prevent the lose.

With a history of child neglect that led to the death of a 2-year old???

    What a travesty!!!

This woman should be in prison where she should be forced to take child development classes.

Praying for the rest of her children, if she has any.

    God bless.

Better question. If she had already been accused of neglect before and the county was aware of the neglect, why was the child still with her?

    They got to be kidding!!!

That is so wrong...just another example of our liberal justice system. That female shouldn't ever be allowed to have a child living with her again. She had a history of neglect, yet she only spends one day in jail and probation??? Sickening.
