Hoke sheriff: Bragg soldier killed wife, himself
A Fort Bragg soldier who recently returned from Iraq shot and killed his wife before turning a gun on himself, Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedDeputies responded to 115 Patolly Place, off U.S. Highway 401 northeast of Raeford, after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor late Saturday. They found two people dead inside from gunshot wounds, Peterkin said, noting that the front door was open and the bodies could be seen inside.
Investigators determined that Seth Andrews, 24, killed Hillary Morgan Andrews and then committed suicide. Both were shot with a rifle, Peterkin said.
Fort Bragg officials said Staff Sgt. Seth Andrews was was an infantryman with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. He returned from a six-month deployment to Iraq Nov. 26 and Nov. 29, officials said.
Soldiers returning from overseas deployments have a formal process to get them reacclimated to family life, called Separation and Reunion. It was developed after four Fort Bragg soldiers killed their spouses after returning from a 2002 deployment to Afghanistan.
A neighbor said the Andrews weren't very sociable, but she saw them laughing together Saturday afternoon.
The case remains under investigation.
