Hoke Deputy Injured as Cruiser Rolls
A Hoke County deputy was injured Tuesday afternoon in a single-car wreck while responding to a call, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedSgt. Victoria Herring, 37, was responding to a report of numerous people fighting on Gainey Road at about 4:20 p.m. when she was involved in a wreck on U.S. Highway 401 between Raeford and Wagram, authorities said.
Herring had her lights and siren on when the wreck occurred and was passing several cars in a passing zone of the two-lane highway, authorities said. Her cruiser ran off the left side of the road, then came back across the highway and went off the right side, rolling over four times before it came to rest, authorities said.
She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville and was then airlifted to Duke University Hospital in Durham for treatment. A state trooper and a sheriff's deputy said she suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries. There was no word on her condition Tuesday night, but both officers said they believed they were not life-threatening.
The wreck remains under investigation.
