RAEFORD, N.C. — The Hoke County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution Monday night opposing a 65-mile-long high-voltage power line.

Progress Energy said the line is necessary to keep up with power demands in the region.

About a third of the proposed line would run across private property and owners said they fear it would destroy the value and usability of the land.

The resolution called on the power company to "cease and desist with its plans to locate its power lines in Hoke County."
