PRINCETON, N.C. — A woman hit Sunday night by a minivan that then drove off has died, police said.

Dayna Wiggs, 25, of Goldsboro, was crossing U.S. Highway 70 at Edwards Road when she was struck by a vehicle, police said.

Police located a 1997 Chevrolet minivan a short time later on Princeton-Kenly Road. The vehicle had front-end damage, and fabric found on the exterior was determined to be similar to the clothing Wiggs was wearing when she was struck, police said.

Police have been unable to find the minivan's owner, Vela Marcelo Mendoza, 44, of 1205 N. Pollock St. in Selma. Police haven't said whether Mendoza was a suspect in the hit-and-run, but they want to talk with him.

Anyone with any information on Mendoza's whereabouts is asked to call Princeton police at 919-936-5131.
