— The State Highway Patrol on Wednesday asked for the public’s assistance in locating the driver or the vehicle that struck and killed a Spring Lake man as he walked along a Harnett County road early Monday.

The body of James Robert Knox II, 41, was found on Sanderfer Road in Bunnlevel, less than a mile west of U.S. Highway 401.

Investigators later learned that Knox and a female acquaintance were at the C&G Country Club, on U.S. 401, earlier that morning and left with a friend who offered them a ride. Knox then got into an argument with the female acquaintance, got out of the vehicle on Raynor McLamb Road and said he would walk home, the acquaintance and the friend told authorities.

A passing driver found his body a short time later.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 910-893-5704.
