  • Breaking News:  The fate of Mario Andrette McNeill, who is accused of raping and killing 5-year-old Shaniya Davis in 2009, is in the hands of a jury following closing arguments Wednesday morning. If the eight-man, four-woman jury finds him guilty, they would then hear evidence before deciding whether to sentence him to life in prison without parole or death.

High winds suspend ferry routes

print friendly

The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route has been suspended Friday and Saturday due to high winds.

Shallow water depth in combination with 40 to 50 mph wind gusts made the inlet unsafe to cross, the N.C. Department of Transportation said.

The Pamlico Sound route from Swan Quarter and Cedar Island to Ocracoke may also be suspended. For information about closures, call 800-BY-FERRY or check the NCDOT Ferry Division Twitter.
