OCRACOKE, N.C. — The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route has been suspended Friday and Saturday due to high winds.

Shallow water depth in combination with 40 to 50 mph wind gusts made the inlet unsafe to cross, the N.C. Department of Transportation said.

The Pamlico Sound route from Swan Quarter and Cedar Island to Ocracoke may also be suspended. For information about closures, call 800-BY-FERRY or check the NCDOT Ferry Division Twitter.
