CRANSTON, R.I. — A high school psychologist accused of not reporting sexual assault allegations against a teacher has pleaded not guilty.
WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/2oKmjvN ) reports George Blessing had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf Tuesday. The Cranston High School West psychologist faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to report sexual abuse of a child in an educational program.
Police say a student told Blessing in February that science teacher Charles Pearson sexually assaulted her. School psychologists are required by law to report sexual assault allegations within 24 hours. Blessing stayed silent.
Police learned of allegations against Pearson after three more students came forward. Police call Blessing's lack of action "inexcusable" and "perplexing."
Blessing remains on paid administrative leave. He is currently released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court next month.
