High school learning lab to shine light on afterschool programs

The Wade Edwards Foundation and Learning Lab, a program for Wake County high schoolers near downtown Raleigh, will host a special event Oct. 17 to bring attention to afterschool programs for kids.

Lights on Afterschool is part of the Afterschool Alliance, a national group that promotes afterschool programs. The day aims to shine a light on programs in communities. Right now, an estimated 15.1 million children take care of themselves after they get out of school.

The learning lab will host an open house with food and entertainment from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Oct. 17. It's located at 714 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, next to Broughton High School. But even though it's right next to Broughton, its services and programs are offered to all Wake County high school students.

The open house will feature the activities, programs and regular events at the lab, a great resource for teens in Raleigh.
