MERIDIAN, Miss. — Some Meridian High School alumni are planning to replace racist graffiti found on a school wall with a painted mural.
The Meridian Star reports (http://bit.ly/2qM5mVk) Renuka Srivastava, the school's valedictorian for 2016, started a GoFundMe page to pay for a mural that will cover the wall where graffiti was sprayed on Friday.
On the GoFundMe page, Srivastava said alumni want to let vandals know that the school is standing united and will not tolerate the biased drawings.
In a statement on Saturday, Meridian Public School District Superintendent Amy Carter said the district is getting the graffiti cleaned so that it doesn't become a distraction to students.
Meridian High School classes of 2008, 2011 and 2016 hosted the fundraiser. The drive had raised $801 of its $1,500 goal by Saturday.
