— Fayetteville and Fort Bragg, communities which sent hundreds of thousands to serve in Iraq over the past two decades, are planning a special event to thank them next autumn. A Heroes Homecoming event will be held Nov. 8-11.

More details will be posted soon on HeroesHomecoming.com.

The 2012 homecoming will be the second for those military communities. Vietnam veterans were the focus in 2011, when 10 days of concerts and parades, lectures, movies and cultural celebrations were held to recognize their service.

The Iraq veterans homecoming is expected to feature many of the same types of celebrations and commemorations.
